The Tallis Silent Showman
The Tallis Silent Showman range is now sporting a striking new look designed by Marilyn & Sons in Melbourne.
These wines are named in honour of Sir George Tallis, who arrived in Melbourne in 1886 as a seventeen-year-old Irish immigrant with just fourteen shillings in his pocket. During his lifetime, Tallis rose to the top of the Australian entertainment industry, establishing a reputation as one of Australia’s most successful theatrical entrepreneurs and generous arts patrons. His achievements were significant, yet his story lies buried. In part, this can be attributed to his own personality; he was a quiet man, not given to self-promotion and was known as the ‘Silent Showman’.
Three generations on, Sir George’s great grandson, winemaker Richard Tallis, acknowledges these accomplishments with the release of a Silent Showman shiraz, cabernet and shiraz viognier. Produced on the family property, fruit for these wines is selected from the vineyard’s best parcels. Old world techniques including open fermenters, hand plunging and ageing in new French and American oak add flavor, complexity and unique textural qualities.
