Scotchman’s Legend
Chief Winemaker at Scotchmans Hill, Robin Brockett, was proudly inducted into the Geelong Wine Hall of Fame during the twenty-fourth Geelong Wine Show celebration. With a forty-year winemaking journey that began in New Zealand, Robin’s dedication to the industry has been instrumental in the growth of the Bellarine Peninsula’s wine scene. Starting his winemaking journey by helping his mother make homemade wine in New Zealand, Robin’s career led him to study at New South Wale’s Charles Sturt University and eventually work at Scotchmans Hill Winery in 1988. He played a pivotal role in the growth of the winery and the broader industry in the region, witnessing its transformation from a young and emerging culture to the thriving industry it is today. The induction into the Geelong Wine Hall of Fame is a rare privilege, and Robin’s name is honoured on the hand-carved board displayed at the Geelong Cellar Door on Little Malop Street. His contribution to the development of the industry over the last 40 years is widely recognised and respected. Robin takes great joy in seeing people enjoy the wines he crafts and using them for special occasions. His dedication to winemaking at Scotchmans Hill and the industry’s growth is evident in his commitment to continuous improvement. A loved and infamous quote by Robin is as follows: “good wine can be made in the winery, but great wine is made in the vineyard. Scotchmans Hill focuses on managing the vineyard to produce the healthiest, clean and intense fruit characters possible.”
