Off The Beaten Track
Medhurst Wines’ cellar door and restaurant have undergone a stunning transformation, making it the Yarra Valley location-to-be. The transformation commenced nearly a decade ago, when a state-of-the-art winery was commissioned in perfect time for the 2011 vintage. The winery has since received both state and national architecture awards and is a finalist in the World Architecture Festival. The recent rebuild of the cellar door and restaurant successfully completes the vision and showcases Medhurst Wines’ award-winning wines.
Designed to capitalise on the spectacular views, the floor-to-ceiling glass-fronted cellar door and restaurant makes the most of the surrounding bushland, overlooking the picturesque vineyard and the gorgeous Yarra Valley greenery.
Chef Joel Alderdice, a Yarra Valley local, brings his wealth of culinary experience to the table, creating seasonal menus by sourcing fresh produce from Ramarro Farm and the Medhurst garden. The ever-evolving shared menu is often inspired by the vegetables and herbs Alderdice picks daily, along with the weekly supply from the farm. Most important of all, the menu is designed to be paired with estate-grown wines.
Medhurst Wines is a family-owned winery established by Ross and Robyn Wilson in 2000. The vineyard, which sits on the north-western side of the Warramate Ranges, was selected for its natural beauty, superb north-facing slopes and potential to produce distinctive wines of provenance. An ample 15-hectares have been planted for pinot noir, chardonnay, sauvignon-blanc, shiraz and cabernet sauvignon varieties on the Wilson’s impressive 150-hectare property.
All wines are made on-site with love, earning the winery a 5-red-star rating in the current edition of the James Halliday’s Wine Companion. Head online to make a booking for the restaurant or drop in for a wine tasting held at the cellar door and witness the delicious wonders Medhurst Wines has to offer.
