Munari Wines’ 2022 Next Chapter Sangiovese has emerged as a standout success at the Heathcote Wine Show, securing the Chair’s Trophy for its vibrant expression of the variety. This is only the second vintage of the Next Chapter Sangiovese produced since a large grafting project was completed, yet it has already cemented itself as a key player in the region’s wine landscape. The success highlights a broader trend in Heathcote, where Mediterranean grape varieties are steadily increasing in both quality and popularity. Renowned for its robust shiraz, the region is now gaining recognition for sangiovese, grenache,vermentino and other varietals that thrive in warm and rich soils. “The growing excellence of these varieties is attracting both critical and consumer interest, signalling a shift in the region’s focus and expanding the breadth of its offerings on the global stage,” winemaker Adrian Munari observes.
