Zig Zag Road

Zig Zag Road

Nestled among the expansive vines and rolling hills of the Macedon Ranges, Zig Zag Road is a scenic vineyard and winery that is imbued with country charm. Experience a unique cellar door experience where you can enjoy tastings of the estate’s passionately handcrafted wines.

Made on-site in the traditional manner with open fermenters, including a small basket press and small oak barriques, Zig Zag Road’s range includes riesling, pinot grigio, sauvignon blanc, rosé, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon, shiraz and sparkling shiraz. Zig Zag Road’s new, natural wine label, Kind Folk, sits alongside the existing range. Wines made under this label are whole-bunch pressed and fermented with wild yeast.

The cellar door overlooks the picturesque vineyard and the lovely state forest beyond. When visiting, tours are available to guests interested in the inner workings of the winery. Visitors are also welcome to bring their own picnic to the grounds.

Planted in 1972, Zig Zag Road is the third oldest vineyard in the Macedon Ranges. With ten acres under low-yielding vines, the grapes are hand-picked by family and friends.

Tasting Notes

Zig Zag Road Riesling
⇐ Zig Zag Road Riesling

This exceptional dry-style wine shows good varietal character. It presents with a bright and clean light-straw colour, displaying great intensity with zesty lime and fruit flavours. Crisp with a steely mineral finish, this riesling will cellar well.

Kind Folk Sauvignon Blanc
⇐ Kind Folk Sauvignon Blanc

A wild fermented, unfiltered and cloudy sauvignon blanc, which was matured on lees with minimum sulphites. A bold and unusual wine that was crafted using finely tuned natural winemaking processes.
