Yabby Lake Vineyard

Yabby Lake Vineyard

Nestled amongst the northern peninsula’s serene bushland is Yabby Lake Vineyard. Boasting award-winning wines of multiple varieties, the vineyard has established an excellent reputation for its single vineyard wines. The 100 hectares of on-site plantation adds to the calm, peaceful atmosphere that guests will experience at Yabby Lake Vineyard.

First established by the Kirby family in 1998, Yabby Lake Vineyard is managed by chief winemaker Tom Carson. Alongside expert winemakers and vineyard managers, Tom leads the team to craft wines of great purity, reflecting the site and the season in which they were grown. It’s the attention and care in the vineyard he believes to be the most critical to allowing this expression.

The team at Yabby Lake Vineyard thrive off the distinct characteristics of individual parcels, where blocks can be planted within ten metres of each other and offer grapes that are remarkably different in character. It is this uniqueness that drives Yabby Lake Vineyard to producing signature flavours that reflect the fruitful maritime climate of Victoria’s beloved Mornington Peninsula.

Yabby Lake Vineyard’s resident head chef Simon West has a menu that changes daily, focusing on locally grown produce, paired with the site’s renowned cool-climate wines. Guests can start with a house-made ocean trout rillettes, discover beautiful local seafood or enjoy a sharing size of Victorian organic beef. The outdoor deck showcases the picturesque views of the vineyard, making for an unforgettable dining and wine tasting experience.

Warm and welcoming, the cellar door features expansive windows, a cosy fireplace, and recycled timber features that are complemented by industrial-style fixtures. Visitors can take their place at the tasting bench to sample the Yabby Lake Vineyard and Red Claw ranges, relax on the deck with a glass of wine or simply pop in for an espresso by Market Lane Coffee at the bar.

Revered for its outstanding pinot noir varieties, Yabby Lake Vineyard was awarded the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy for its 2012 Block 1 Pinot Noir – the first pinot noir to win in the competition’s history. In 2016, the vineyard received the Stodart Trophy for Best Young Red of Show for its 2015 Single Vineyard Pinot Noir. Yabby Lake Vineyard was recognised again at the 2019 Mornington Peninsula Vignerons Wine Show (MPVA) for Best Current Vintage Pinot Noir for its 2018 Block 5 Pinot Noir.
