Yabby Lake Vineyard
Yabby Lake Vineyard
Nestled amongst the northern peninsula’s serene bushland is Yabby Lake Vineyard. Boasting award-winning wines of multiple varieties, the vineyard has established an excellent reputation for its single vineyard wines. The 40-hectares of on-site plantation adds to the calm, peaceful atmosphere that guests will experience at Yabby Lake Vineyard.
First established by the Kirby family in 1998, Yabby Lake Vineyard is managed by chief winemaker Tom Carson. Alongside expert winemakers and vineyard managers, Tom leads the team to craft wines of great purity, reflecting the site and the season in which they were grown. It’s the attention and care in the vineyard he believes to be the most critical in allowing this expression.
It is Yabby Lake Vineyard’s philosophy to craft wines that reflect the spirit of the site and the season in which the grapes are grown, and it is the attention and care in the vineyard that is most critical to allowing that expression.
Chef Simon West has been cooking on the Mornington Peninsula for many years and his in-depth understanding of the wines and produce of the region is evident in his ever-changing menu at Yabby Lake. West brings vast experience in creating food that highlights and complements the purity and character of cool climate wines, in particular pinot noir and chardonnay.
Warm and welcoming, the cellar door features expansive windows, a cosy fireplace, and recycled timber features that are complemented by industrial-style fixtures. Visitors can take their place at the tasting bench to sample the Yabby Lake Vineyard and Red Claw ranges, relax on the deck with a glass of wine or simply pop in for an espresso at the bar.
Revered for its outstanding pinot noir varieties, Yabby Lake Vineyard was awarded the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy for its 2012 Block 1 Pinot Noir – the first pinot noir to win the prestigious Jimmy Watson in the competition’s history. In 2016, the vineyard was awarded the Stodart Trophy for Best Young Red of Show for its 2015 Single Vineyard Pinot Noir.
