THIRTY YEARS OF GRAMPIANS ESTATE
Grampians Estate will celebrate thirty years of production at a special lunch at its Great Western cellar door on Saturday 11th October. This will take place during the Grampians Wine Festival, an annual celebration where the region’s cellar doors host a variety of events to showcase the wonders of western Victorian wine.
Having planted a four-acre vineyard of chardonnay and shiraz grapes at Mafeking, 1995 was the year Tom and Sarah Guthrie had sufficient grapes for a neighbouring winery to make its 1995 Mafeking Gold Chardonnay and 1995 Mafeking Shiraz. In 1996, the vineyard doubled to eight acres. In 2006, most of the vineyard was burnt in the Grampians bushfire. In 2009, they purchased the Garden Gully cellar door, renaming it Grampians Estate, and an old vineyard, including twelve acres of shiraz and riesling. In 2020, they added a winery café.
With Tom Guthrie as winemaker, it continues as a family-run boutique winery that has always prided itself on the quality of its wines, earning a multitude of awards. The thirty-year celebration will reflect on the journey as guests enjoy some of the special wines made over that time. Keep an eye on the website for details.
