Red Hare Estate
Red Hare Estate
Red Hare Estate Vineyard is a boutique family-run vineyard set amongst the beautiful rolling hills of Glenlyon in the Macedon Ranges wine region. The vines and grapes at this stunning winery are lovingly nurtured and cared for by hand year-round.
The team ensures that yields are voluntarily kept low to keep the grapes at their highest intensity and quality. Red Hare Estate Vineyard wines are renowned for their rich flavour and excellent quality, providing a perfect pour every time.
The vineyard produces six varietals a year: prosecco, pinot grigio, pinot gris, pinot noir, sangiovese and shiraz, giving everyone something to love from this stunning winery. Two and a half hectares of grapes are under vine on-site. The vines were lovingly planted eighteen years ago and have been owned and cared for by Peter and Kim McQueen for the last four years.
Come and share the team’s passion for wine and sample the fine cool climate Italian Wines at the cellar door near Glenlyon, just ten minutes from Daylesford. The winery is three kilometres from Glenlyon and an easy ten-to-fifteen minute drive from Trentham, Kyneton, Malmsbury and twenty minutes from Woodend.
Why not relax at the cellar door, watch the seasons change, and unwind from the world? Red Hare Estate Vineyard boasts a cosy fire in winter, and alfresco options in the warmer months. The team suggests making a booking for either a table, barrel, picnic rug or a tasting to avoid disappointment.
The winery offers light lunches and pizzas on select days, allowing you to make a day of your trip to Red Hare Estate Vineyard. Have a tasting and start your love affair with these incredible wines. You’ll want to make room in your wine fridge for these!
Tasting Notes
⇐ 2020 Prosecco

⇐ 2021 Pinot Gris
Estate grown in the cool climate of the Macedon Ranges at 620m this npartially barrel aged Pinot Gris has excellent balance, is rich, ripe and silky in texture. Well-structured and mouthfilling with luscious notes of peaches and pears with a hint of apple, orange blossom and cinnamon spice. This Pinot Gris block is a favourite of the Black Face Suffolk Sheep who graze and tend to the block throughout winter and early spring.
⇐ 2021 Sangiovese
Classic Sangiovese characters are apparent with red and Morello cherry flavours, hints of spice with a savoury finish. Displays fine tannins on the long medium-bodied palate. Hand harvested and fermented in traditional open vats, hand plunging utilised to submerge the cap of skins and gently extract flavours and phenolics.
⇐ 2020 Shiraz
Hand crafted and delicately blended from two small batch vineyards situated between Bendigo and Heathcote. This medium body shiraz of deep colour and character exudes raspberry, blackberry, clove and crushed herb notes. A generous palate envelopes the red and dark fruits with a soft finish.
