Red Edge

Red Edge

Set on some of the oldest earth on the planet, Red Edge was planted on the region’s famous 500-million-year-old Cambrian soil. Initially containing 2-hectares under vine, the winery’s success, and passion for creating delicious, succulent wines has seen it expand its reach to encompass an impressive 14-hectares.

Made by minimal intervention, every bottle produced is reminiscent of the unique terroir it came from. As a result, the flavour profile of each vintage is reflective of the growing conditions experienced by the vines, varying with each passing year.

Each bottle produced at Red Edge is made from entirely estate-grown fruit, so you can rest assured knowing that it has been diligently cultivated with exceptional care from vine to table. The mineral laden, well-draining soil is perfectly suited to red grapevines and as a result, Red Edge cultivates a number of different varieties including shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, mourvedere, tempranillo, graciano, mencia, touriga nacional, and riesling. From these a range of styles including single varietals, blended wines, and fortified wines are produced including more recently a mourvedere rosé and sparkling shiraz.

Tasting Notes

Fiano
⇐ 2017 Red Edge 71 Block Shiraz

Crafted from vines that are never irrigated, forcing the roots deep into the ancient Cambrian soil, resulting in the creation of a structured and powerful wine. Dark and brooding, this delectable shiraz is bursting with flavour. Only 500 bottles are produced each year, spending two years in French Tronçais oak barriques before finally being bottled without filtration.

Vermentino
⇐ 2017 Tinto Mezclado

A synthesis of tempranillo, monstatrell, graciano, and touriga grapes produce this bright wine. The wine is abundant with red juicy fruits that is balanced by spicy savoury notes from the mineral laden Cambrian soil. Designed to accompany food, this wine is best enjoyed now alongside all things Mediterranean.
