Ready For Riesling
In November 2019, Granite Hills celebrated a double-trophy victory and a nine-medal win at The Victorian Wine Show. The winery was awarded Best Riesling in the state for its 2018 “1971 Block” Riesling and also secured the title of Best Small Producer exhibitor. “[In 2018] we did a small bottling of riesling made from grapes [that were] hand-picked from the very first block of riesling planted at Granite Hills in 1971. Only 390-dozen bottles were produced,” says owner, Llew Knight. Judges at the Victorian Wine Show also noted Granite Hills’ wines were “well-made with very good texture and length.” Granite Hills entered eight classes with various wine styles and received nine medals, including two gold! In 2020, the vineyard will celebrate fifty years since the first vines were planted.
