Peerick
Peerick
Nestled in the heart of the rugged Australian Pyrenees, this unique vineyard has given rise to a distinctive range of award-winning wines that embody the beauty, fragility and resilience of the Australian country.
Deriving its name from the word ‘beeric’ – the Indigenous name for the tiger quoll, bestowed upon this region by the Dja Dja Wurrung – Peerick’s label combines the triskele from the owner’s Celtic culture with Indigenous artwork, to celebrate and acknowledge the customs, beliefs and dreamtime stories of the land’s traditional custodians. This unique fusion of ancient cultures symbolises Peerick’s commitment to sustainable viticultural and wine-making practices and celebrates both cultures’ deep, spiritual connection to terroir.
While not officially certified, Peerick abides by organic practices and minimal use of fungicides, pesticides and harsh chemicals – principals underpinned by the Pyrenees region’s optimal climate. Handpicked and pruned, all Peerick’s boutique varietals are single vineyard, sustainably grown. This unique and dedicated process has garnered Peerick a plethora of awards; including recent titles of Double Gold and Australian Sauvignon Blanc Winery of the Year at the Asian International Wine Competition, and Double Gold and Pyrenees Viognier Winery of the Year at the Melbourne International Wine Competition. This sits comfortably alongside a collection of other accolades. Peerick’s magnificent shiraz was awarded 5-stars by Winestate Magazine in 2021 and named in its top ten Australian Shiraz.
The captivating outdoor experience at Peerick is just as breathtaking as its brilliant wines, with vast sprawling views to delight both nature lovers and sight-seers alike. For the more adventurous folk, Peerick’s ‘Bush To Vine Trail’ takes visitors on a short hike through the Pyrenees ranges where they are supplied with a picnic lunch and selection of wines for the perfect outdoor dining experience.
For those not wanting to venture far, there are two sheltered, paved areas adjacent to the cellar door, allowing visitors to take in the wonderous views without braving the elements. With its outstanding views and unique wine philosophy, Peerick is a winery experience like no other, and visiting is a must for all enthusiasts of this region’s delightful varietals.
Tasting Notes
⇐ 2019 Peerick Shiraz
The perfect example of what the Pyrenees region has to offer, this juicy, vibrant vintage is deep in colour and oozes with fruit, intensity and character. Medium bodied and firm in structure, its rich flavour and silky tannins lead to a long, deep finish.
⇐ Peerick Sauvignon Blanc Fumé
This multi-award-winning sauvignon blanc is aged in blend of new and old French oak, adding sophistication, depth and complexity, allowing it to linger longer on the palate. A perfume of ruby-red grapefruit, quince, spice and fennel. Finely balanced between a profile of grapefruit and passionfruit.
⇐ 2019 The MANG
Peerick’s flagship premium red, The MANG, is a powerful, elegant blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, shiraz and cabernet franc. A powerful, fullbodied wine best paired with red meat and hearty fare. A reflection of the highest quality wine this vineyard can produce, this varietal is in limited release, only produced during the best vintages.
⇐ 2019 Two Nurses Viognier
As practising nurses, Peerick owners Felicity O’Hara and daughter Megan were the inspiration for the Two Nurses brand. This double gold award-winning wine pays homage to their colleagues, our country’s humble heroes. A fragrant, luscious and full-bodied wine with peach, apricot, mango, honeysuckle and perfumed scents. A great all-rounder with food, this viognier is an easy drinking refreshing tipple, bursting with character.
