Montalto

Montalto

Owned by the Mitchell family since 1999, Montalto is a place where you celebrate life and enjoy a moment out of the ordinary. Seasonal, heirloom produce is grown, shared and celebrated on site, with thirty beautiful acres thriving under the vine as the premium source for their wines. The Restaurant and The Piazza kitchens are supplied through the estate gardens and orchards, ensuring a true estate-to-plate dining experience.

Led by Simon Black, Montalto’s award-winning winemaking team create wines of exemplary quality and character, utilising techniques that complement the unique qualities derived from only the very best parcels of fruit taken from its five vineyards, and in a style that reflects each site. Perfect to drink now, or to cellar, Montalto wines are designed to be savoured.

Helmed by John and Wendy, the pair are passionate Peninsula locals, having holidayed in Balnarring Beach since the mid-1970s before moving permanently in 2005. Inspired by their travels through the south of France, they set their sights upon establishing a property on their beloved Mornington Peninsula, sharing the same integrity, generosity, estate-grown produce and spirit of hospitality they had enjoyed overseas.

In 1997, the dream both John and Wendy shared was fully realised when they purchased the property that would become Montalto in 2002. The couple expanded their Peninsula footprint again in 2017 by acquiring the property next door, Tucks. What began as a retirement project soon became a lifelong passion and an ongoing source of pride and joy for the couple.

Chief winemaker, Simon Black, began his journey with Montalto back in 2009, and has tremendous grounding and recognition for the vineyards that provide the lifeblood to the Montalto winery. During his time at Montalto, Black has amassed 218 gold medals and 71 trophies at regional, national and international wine shows that are a credit to his critically acclaimed work.

Sign up to Montalto’s Wine Club, which offers a number of spectacular benefits, including priority seating at The Restaurant with complimentary glasses of Montalto Cuveé upon arrival, free shipping Australia-wide, exclusive invitations to members-only events and more.
