Marnong Estate
Marnong Estate
Marnong Estate is a unique offering, as it has sweeping views of the Macedon Ranges and the remnants of the area’s history, including the original chook shed and sheep shearing sheds. There are alpacas, camels, donkeys, sheep and cows who roam the property. You might see them while you are enjoying a glass of wine at the café, or while dining in La Vètta. The winery is located only thirty-five minutes from Melbourne CBD and fifteen minutes from Melbourne Airport. Over summer, the terrace located next to the cellar door is the perfect location to enjoy a wine tasting and cheese plates while admiring the vineyard views in the distance.
Specialising in cool-climate wines, Marnong Estate offers a variety of French and Italian wines. This includes sparkling wines, pinot grigio, fiano, chardonnay, pinot noir, shiraz, montepulciano, with more Italian wines coming in over the next few years. Currently, the winery produces twelve wines per year, with more wines being added to the portfolio and as the team’s new vineyard plantings mature.
The new six-hectare vineyard is a welcome addition to the already sprawling sixteen-and-a-halfhectare vines that Marnong Estate currently holds. The award-winning winery has taken home twenty awards across its varietals – a testament to its incredible winemaking expertise.
The first inhabitants of the area now known as Marnong Estate were the Woiworung people. The Woiworung people lived off the surrounding area where kangaroos and emus roamed. The rolling hills were rich with murnong, or yam daisies, a grasslands plant with edible roots, which made up their staple diet. This is where the name of Marnong Estate came from, and is the reason for the yam daisy flower on the Marnong Estate wine labels.
When settlers arrived, the area became pastoral land for sheep farming, and ownership was passed through a few hands until Arthur Angliss took on ownership of the land in 1898. The land continued to be farmed and owned by the Angliss family until 1995. The original homestead is still on the property and has been carefully restored as an accommodation offering on the estate.

Tasting Notes
⇐ Marnong Estate Brut
This pristine, fresh, dry-style sparkling wine with delicate citrus notes, a hint of nougat and an enduring, creamy palate is ideal for any celebratory occasion.
⇐ 2021 Marnong Estate Fiano
With light golden colouring, notes of Thai lime and white flowers on the nose and a refreshingly zingy acidity on the palate, this is a perfect wine to enjoy outside on a sunny day with an antipasto.
⇐ 2021 Marnong Estate Shiraz
The nose shows juicy ripe plum and raspberry fruit notes with aniseed and olive tapenade characters typical of
cool climate shiraz. Followed with silky tannins and a savoury palate, this wine would pair beautifully with a slow-cooked ragu on a cool autumn or winter’s day.
⇐ 2021 Marnong Estate Montepulciano
This elegant drop has an incredible depth of bright crimson colour. The nose is fragrant, with lifted spice over ripe red plum skin and fruit cake notes. The palate is medium-weight with a plush, velvety texture and lovely ripe tannins. Decant it before serving if you have the patience.
