Galli Estate
Galli Estate
Galli Estate was the vision of Tuscan-born Lorenzo Galli, who came to Australia in the 1950s. In the late 1990s, two vineyard sites were carefully selected in the Heathcote and Sunbury wine regions of Victoria; the rich red volcanic soils of Sunbury and the famous Cambrian soils of Heathcote were fundamental to Lorenzo’s dream. They are the secret to Galli Estate’s wines, and honestly reflect its origins and bring pleasure to all who share them, including wine novices and afficionados.
Today, Galli Estate produces four different ranges of wines, including the Galli Estate Camelback range for leisurely, relaxed enjoyment, the Galli Estate Artigiano range, which is handcrafted with passion and attention to detail, as well as the new release Adelé range that is focused on small batch, natural winemaking. The jewel in the crown is surely the Galli Estate Riserva range, comprising of the Lorenzo Shiraz and Pamela Chardonnay. These comprise of selected top wines from outstanding vintages and pay homage to Lorenzo and Pamela Galli’s achievements.
The winemaking team led by Alistair Park approaches winemaking with a minimalist hand, and all wines are vegan friendly. Alistair prefers to use natural wild yeasts and limited filtration. He channels his inner pagan and racks on weeks of the new moon and is free to indulge with some considered experimentation. In the vineyard, viticulturalists John Armstrong and Vinnie Harrop, who between them have been managing Galli’s Sunbury and Heathcote vineyards for almost twenty years, ensuring that Alistair always has access to prime fruit.
Galli Estate has an impressive cellar door and restaurant complex. The striking steel-arched building offers sweeping views over the vines, and is home to one of the best restaurants in the area. The intimate cellar door presents the ideal opportunity to taste the exceptional range of Galli Estate wines which earned a 5-red star rating in James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion.
Galli Estate also has a wine club that offers member access with many benefits, including regular special promotions. The friendly and knowledgeable staff at Galli Estate will be pleased to advise you on your wine choices, and would love the opportunity to share the fruits of their vision and labours with you.
Tasting Notes
⇐ Pamela Chardonnay
This wine showcases incredible complexity, with lifted aromas of stone fruits, particularly white nectarine, grapefruit and citrus, with a hint of nuttiness. The characters continue on the palate with more concentrated mineral undertones and grilled almonds that are well-balanced with the richness of high-quality French oak. Enjoy now or cellar for three to five years.
⇐ Adelé Syrah
This wine is exotic and elegant, showing lovely cool-climate syrah (shiraz) characters of white pepper and spice. Whole bunch ferment characters lift the aromatics and display subtle upfront tannins that are balanced with blackberry and spice intensity. Enjoy now or cellar for five to ten years.
⇐ Camelback Shiraz
This Heathcote shiraz displays lovely notes of violets and blackberries with earthy plums, red berries and spices. Subtle French oak is intertwined, as fine tannins give good length and balance to go with the intense dark shiraz fruit characters. Enjoy now or cellar carefully for three to five years.
⇐ Galli Estate Pinot Grigio
Grown in Galli Estate’s cool-climate Sunbury vineyard, this wine has citrus, melon, spicy pear, ginger and almond flavours. The wine has lovely textural tones and intensity, fresh and crisp notes, and a long cleansing finish.
