Flying Brick Cider Co.

Iconic for good reason, this retro-inspired landmark venue is definitely a go-to destination. Think innovative space, a luxurious lawn, tasting paddles of ciders, great food, the best Bellarine wines around, a solid selection of beer, live music both Friday and Saturday nights and you’ll get an inkling of what to expect – fabulous, funky, fun.

A regional first, Flying Brick Cider Co was launched on The Bellarine in 2010. The quirky name comes from the Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo whose local nickname is ‘Flying Brick’. Known for their spunk, these birds are loved for their happy, playful and seemingly ‘naughty’ appearance and disposition. Local legend also has it that if a flock of black cockatoos flies overhead, you are blessed with good luck.

The Flying Brick ciders are traditionally crafted from 100 percent fresh fruit – unlike many mainstream Australian ciders which are nothing more than synthetic carbonated water. They also contain no sugars, colours or concentrates. Today, Flying Brick is known and loved as one of the founders of true Australian craft cider.

In addition to the three classic and highly awarded Flying Brick Cider offerings – original, pear and draught – the onsite cidery is continually crafting boutique seasonal batches from fresh, seasonal fruit under Cider Master, Nyall Condon’s direction. Other popular ciders in the stable include PANGO, RasPerry and SPLICER (a salute to the iconic Australian ice cream, the Pine Lime Splice).

The building design is true to brand, reflecting the Flying Brick bird itself with the exterior facade echoing its namesake’s colours and wingspan. Inside, the imposing wood clad ceiling mirrors a commanding yet highly intricate wing structure.

Head Chef, Greg Mendiola has designed a contemporary and distinctively different menu designed to inspire, share and indulge. Local produce and community group partnership are both key features. Warmer months also enjoy the culinary option of the Cockpit food van out on the lawn serving up delicious snacks to those wanting to cruise on the grass
