De Bortoli Rutherglen Estate
De Bortoli Rutherglen Estate
Located in the heart of Rutherglen, De Bortoli Rutherglen Estate offers visitors plenty of reasons to stay a while. With the cellar door, art gallery and Tuileries Restaurant all housed within the original 1880s winery building, the complex is full of character and has become an iconic landmark within the town. Rutherglen Estates was formed in 1997 and in late 2019 was purchased by the De Bortoli family. The family started wine production in 1928 in Bilbul, NSW. The company has grown over time to now include cellar doors in the Yarra Valley, Hunter Valley and Bilbul. In addition to these cellar doors, they also have vineyards in the King Valley and Heathcote regions.
The unique, modern cellar door provides visitors with several options to sample the wide variety of wines produced in Rutherglen, as well as several De Bortoli wines from other regions. The award-winning Rutherglen wines are true to style and feature alternative wine varietals alongside regional favourites such as Durif and Muscat. Cellar door options include traditional and seasonal wine tastings. Cheese and produce platters are permanently on offer and guests can choose to match a particular wine or simply buy a bottle of their favourite.
Guests may also choose to enjoy a meal in the restaurant. Tuileries restaurant is one of the most renowned restaurants in the region, offering Australian cuisine in a relaxed, semi-formal setting. If more than a day trip is on the agenda, Tuileries boutique accommodation provides the ideal destination for an overnight escape. The house specialty is a dine, bed and breakfast package. Three styles of accommodation are on offer, the ever-popular king-sized vineyard rooms and king superior rooms, each with its own balcony overlooking the stunning wedding garden and vineyard, and the two-bedroom units for groups or families. The site also offers a tennis court and a pool.
De Bortoli Rutherglen Estate can also accommodate those looking for a business retreat and or conference. The façade of the building hides a plethora of facilities including a modern function room as well as a stylish, smaller boardroom and large conference room upstairs. The Estate provides the ideal backdrop for a vineyard or destination wedding. Their stunning rose garden is nestled amongst the vineyard, and the perfect place to say “I do”. The Estate offers various reception spaces, as well as accommodation for guests to stay. The team works hard to ensure that each wedding is unique and tailored to suit the individual visions of each couple. The team welcomes all types of celebrations and can cater from large formal weddings to small intimate elopements.
Tasting Notes

⇐ Arneis 2024
This trophy-winning wine has green pear with lifted spice aromas. It offers lovely fresh acidity, generous rich fruit weight on the mid-palate with a delicate citrus note and textural finish. Think spice, pears and a hint of almond.

⇐ Shelley’s Block (Marsanne Viognier Roussanne) 2022
A multi award winning wine with complexity, citrus, spice, apricot and ginger with subtle oak and dry herb aromas. The palate has beautiful length and structure, soft texture, with nutty, citrus and delicate spice notes.

⇐ Renaissance Durif 2019
A wonderful expression of Rutherglen Durif. Complex and brooding aromas of dark berries, plums, liquorice with hints of dried tobacco leaf. The palate is wrapped around a densely packed dark fruit core, with blackberry and cacao complemented by well-integrated oak. Mouth-filling and rich, this is an intense wine with a long, lingering finish- one to savour slowly.

⇐ Muscat Aperitif
A new style of Rutherglen Muscat which showcases a trendy, more approachable wine. It is a mouthful of flavour – think rosewater but spicier with hints of anise, fresh ginger, Turkish Delight and quince. A refreshingly delicious addition for any occasion. Serve it chilled, at room temperature, straight up or in a cocktail.
