Baarmutha Wines
At Baarmutha Wines, wine is more than just what is poured into the glass – it’s an immersive journey into the heart of Beechworth terroir. Every visit is personal, authentic, and deeply connected to the land that makes Baarmutha Wines unique. The estate specialises in small-batch, handcrafted wines with a focus on the cool-climate varieties that thrive in mineral-rich soils. Each wine is made with minimal intervention to allow the vineyard to speak for itself, producing elegant, expressive wines with purity, structure and a strong sense of place.
Each year, Baarmutha Wines produces only around 2,000 bottles of each wine, making every release a truly limited expression of the vineyard. Seasonal variation plays an important role in shaping the character of each vintage – some years bring more intensity and structure, others more elegance and finesse – ensuring that no two bottlings are ever exactly alike. The core range is built around three varieties that thrive in Beechworth’s soils and cool-climate conditions: chardonnay, shiraz and sangiovese. These wines form the backbone of the estate, with occasional small-batch or single-vintage releases adding further depth and diversity to the collection.
Baarmutha Wines was founded by Vinny and Sharon Webb in 2006. What began as a small scale project to produce wine for their own enjoyment quickly grew into a genuine passion and pursuit. Over time, the vineyard evolved from a personal consumption exercise into a boutique wine business. Nearly two decades on, Baarmutha Wines remains proudly family-run, with every vintage still shaped by the same hands-on care and authenticity that inspired its beginnings.
What makes Baarmutha Wines truly unique is the way guests are invited behind the scenes for a tasting experience unlike any other. Tastings are often held in the underground cellar, creating an intimate setting where visitors can enjoy wines surrounded by the very barrels and bottles they’ve come from. Every experience is hosted personally by Vinny, ensuring each guest gains not only an introduction to the wines themselves, but also an understanding of the vineyard, the soils and the stories behind each vintage.
The team consistently push for exploration and innovation, with its first Blanc de Blanc Méthode Traditionnelle sparkling about to be released, and a Baarmutha Pilsner, made in collaboration with a local brewery, in the works. Watch this space – something special is on the horizon.
