Award Winning Chardonnay
Gippsland Wine Company was awarded the White Wine of Provenance trophy at the 2023 Westpac Gippsland Wine Show. This prestigious award was based on three different vintages of chardonnay, from 2016, 2019 and 2021. This achievement demonstrates the bloodline of the Loch vineyard chardonnay, highlighting its best viticulture practices, as well as the site’s thriving terroir.
The Loch Village Vineyard is the mature home block of Gippsland Wine Company. The sloping north-facing vineyard is home to sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay vines that were first planted in 1999. The vines are planted 1.5 metres
apart and are traditionally cane pruned to achieve optimum quality fruit. The vineyard is located some 100km south-east of Melbourne with maritime influences from Westernport Bay and the onshore winds of the Bass Strait. The long, cool seasons the region experiences make it the perfect location for early ripening.
Gippsland Wine Company has been consistently producing outstanding chardonnay since 2010, with future plantings planned at the new Lochonia vineyard. The current release was awarded a Gold Medal in the chardonnay class (ninety-five points) and won the Chair of Judges award at the 2023 Westpac Gippsland Wine Show.
