Summerfield Wines
Summerfield Wines
Amongst the breathtaking landscape of the Pyrenees ranges is the scenic and peaceful Summerfield winery, where the family history is as rich as the majestic vines that have flourished and grown on the site. Ian Summerfield planted the first 10 acres of shiraz vines in 1970. After the growth of these grapes, Ian sought out the help of an experienced winemaker. From there, his deep and underlying passion for winemaking took off and Summerfield was established.
For more than fifty years, the family has grown grapes in this lush region to create the award-winning wines of today. Minimal intervention is at the heart of the winemaking process at Summerfield. Every grape is hand-picked, and all wines are made by hand in small batches with traditional techniques to produce bold, premium wines. With more than 19 hectares under vine on site, the love and care that the winemakers put into each bottle can be tasted with every sip.
Serving up wood-fired pizza and other delicious cuisine, guests can enjoy the serenity of Summerfield either inside the restaurant, under the pergola, or in the delightful native gardens fringed by the screened iron fencing, which is laser-cut with the Summerfield story.
Guests can purchase freshly baked bread and pastry products straight from the woodfire oven. The winery also has a delicatessen with gourmet cheeses, meats and jams, as well as a small offering of sweets, so guests can pair their Summerfield wines with a variety of tasty treats.
True wine lovers can get involved with the Summerfield Cellar Club, where members will receive accommodation deals, discounts on wine purchases, and access to limited and exclusive vintage wines.
With a 5-red star James Halliday rating and more than 150 accolades to its name, Summerfield’s excellence has been continually recognised throughout the years. A trip to Summerfield is a relaxed, wine-tasting experience that you won’t soon forget.
Tasting Notes
⇐ Cabernet 2019
2019 was a fantastic year for making wines. The long, slow ripening season produced wines with great elegance and structure. This cabernet has blackberry, blackcurrants and violets on the nose, with bright structured fruit on the palate. Drink now to 2030.
⇐ Reserve Cabernet 2018
The vintage’s lengthy ripening season allowed delicious, sophisticated varietals to emerge. With blackberry, blackcurrant, raspberry and floral aromas on the nose, this wine sets up a wonderfully structured, fruit-driven palate. Enjoy now to 2035.
⇐ Shiraz 20178
Picking fruit throughout the month of April is becoming uncommon, as harvest times are getting much earlier. Those qualities of late harvest are expressed on the palate; with plums, raspberries, violets and spice. Indulge in a delicious drop now to 2030.
⇐ Reserve Shiraz 2018
The complexity and elegance that you get from shiraz vintages is remarkable; this wine is no exception with cherries, plums and violets on the nose. The combined balance of tannins and fruit on the palate is seamless. Savour now to 2035.
