Boutique, family owned and in the heart of Rutherglen, Cofield Wines is passionate about sharing crafted, quality wines with the world. The Cofield family has long been part of the winemaking process, treading the vineyards of Rutherglen for more than 100 years.
From working with his grandfather in various wineries, Max Cofield’s passion for winemaking saw him establish Cofield Wines in 1990, that has more than eleven hectares under vine on-site.
His son, Damien Cofield followed his footsteps and took over in 2007. The winery has won various awards, from Halliday People’s Choice Winner in 2024, Halliday 5-star winery 2025 the 2012 Provincial Black Pinot Noir Chardonnay winning Best Sparkling Wine in North East Victoria in 2024. These accolades showcase the level of care that each wine is crafted with.
Cofield Wines produces an extensive range of regional white wines, Rutherglen reds and fortified wines, but specialises in traditional method sparkling wines.

Guests can unwind in the open air with scenic views settling in for a long lunch at Quartz Cuisine, the on-site restaurant, while the children enjoy the entertainment area with various lawn games.

With numerous events planned at Cofield Wines throughout the year, the calendar boasts events in every season, from the cold winter days to warm summer nights. Through these hosted events, the winery showcases local live music acts; with a variety of events hosted both on the outside lawn and in the Cellar Door.
Tasting Notes
⇐ 2012 Provincial Black Pinot Noir Chardonnay
Ten years of aging on yeast lees left this sparkling wine with remarkable depth and complexity. The nose is enticing with aromas of nougat, freshly baked goods and roasted hazelnut, while the palate is full-bodied and complex. A crisp, dry finish combined with refreshing acidity makes this wine a masterful expression patience and precision in traditional sparkling winemaking.
⇐ 2023 Provincial Black Netherby Shiraz
Aromas of white pepper, black cherry, plum and dark berries with subtle vanillin oak spice, lead to a medium to full-bodied palate with a soft yet precise mouthfeel. Fine chalky tannins and a lingering finish, shaped by concentrated fruit from the leanest vineyard parcels and twenty-four months’ maturation in predominantly seasoned French oak.
⇐ 2025 Grenache
Light-bodied and elegant, this wine shows aromas of red fruits, layered with rose petals and orange rind. The palate is soft, finishing with fine tannins that add balance and length. Fruit was destemmed and hand plunged over seventeen days before gentle pressing. The wine matured in French oak for eight months, then blended with five per cent Shiraz prior to bottling for added depth.
⇐ 2025 Rosé
This delicate and refreshing Rosé was crafted from sixty per cent Shiraz and forty per cent Sangiovese from the Quartz Vein vineyard. The wine offers aromas of peaches and cream with subtle hints of strawberry, citrus, cherry blossom and blood orange. To preserve natural acidity, the fruit was harvested early, gently pressed and co-fermented, resulting in a light, crisp, and clean palate with a faint mineral edge.
