Fifty And Fabulous

Owner and winemaker Neill Robb is a pioneering figure in the Pyrenees wine region, with a remarkable winemaking career spanning more than fifty-five years. His journey began in 1970, when he worked alongside his father producing sparkling wine at the historic Chateau Remy, now known as Blue Pyrenees Estate. Just a few years later, in 1973, Neill and his wife Sally purchased a piece of land in Redbank. Their vision and dedication soon gave rise to one of the region’s most respected wineries: Sally’s Paddock Redbank Winery.

From its inception, Neill had a clear vision for the vineyard. The original twelve-acre (4.8-hectare) vineyard was planted with a blend of five classic grape varieties: cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, shiraz, malbec and merlot. Rather than focusing on a single varietal, Neill embraced the art of blending, drawing on the individual strengths of each grape to create something truly unique. The result is Sally’s Paddock – a complex, elegant and widely iconic wine that has excelled for the last forty years.

Since its first vintage in 1979, Sally’s Paddock has been crafted using techniques that reflect Neill’s commitment to quality. The grapes are handpicked and basket pressed, followed by careful maturation in both American and French oak barrels. Over
the decades, Neill’s unwavering dedication and craftsmanship have earned Sally’s Paddock a revered place in Australian winemaking. In 2023, the winery proudly celebrated its fiftieth anniversary – a testament to a legacy built on passion, tradition and
excellence. With half a century behind it, the winery is not just marking a milestone but reaffirming its place in the landscape of Australian wine.
