Family-owned and -operated by husband-and wife duo, Brett and Liz Barnes, the winery is renowned not just for the superior quality of its wines, but also for its cellar door, offering one of the most scenic tasting experiences in Australia.

Since the initial planting of vines in 1997, the winery has poured passion, expertise and dedication into building an estate that reflects both tradition and innovation. Brett, the vigneron, and Liz, the winemaker, work in collaboration to craft wines of elegance,  finesse and authenticity – using minimal intervention techniques to let the fruit shine. All wines are made by hand on-site with just five hectares under vine, producing around 1,200 cases annually.

Specialising in red varietals, Star Lane offers a refined selection including merlot, shiraz and exuberant Italian varietals like nebbiolo and sangiovese, matured in traditional Amphora. A supremely balanced chardonnay rounds out its range, with all wines thoughtfully crafted to pair effortlessly with food.

What sets Star Lane apart is not just its wine, but its unique setting. The cellar door sits nestled in landscaped gardens at the base of the Victorian Alps, with stunning views of the surrounding hills. Architecturally distinctive, the space features handcrafted red gum furniture, providing a rustic char, to the serene tasting experience.

Open by appointment only, visitors can enjoy personalised tastings of current vintages along with intimate guided tours of the winery and grounds. The winery also hosts its much-loved long lunches, offering guests a memorable food and wine experience in a truly breathtaking location.
