Morris of Rutherglen

With more than 165 years and six generations of dedication, the Morris family combines decades of tradition with contemporary techniques. Rutherglen is the unparalleled home of Australian fortifiedwine and is steeped in history of the late Victorian era. The unique microclimate of hot summer days and cool nights is perfect for aging and helps to create the distinct flavours that have become the hallmark of Morris. The winery specialises in fortified, table and sparkling red wines – continuing to be made with the same love, passion and traditional winemaking techniques that has been the hallmark of Morris since 1859.

Morris of Rutherglen is one of Australia’s most iconic and respected wine family dynasties, renowned for its long-standing legacy and influential role in the nation’s winemaking. In 1859, George Francis Morris established a vineyard and winery near Rutherglen in north-eastern Victoria. George’s legacy has now been passed down to sixth-generation winemaker, Madden Morris, continuing a tradition of producing both wines and whiskies in conjunction with head distiller, Darren Peck.

The winery is Australia’s most awarded wine & whisky brand. In 2025, Morris of Rutherglen reaffirmed its place at the pinnacle of Australian winemaking, collecting an impressive array of accolades across the globe. From the Fortified Trophy and multiple Gold medals at the National Wine Show of Australia, to Platinum and Gold honours at the Decanter World Wine Awards, and further recognition at the International Wine & Spirits Competition and China Wine & Spirits Awards, Morris of Rutherglen continues to captivate judges and connoisseurs alike. As world acclaimed wine writer Jancis Robinson once remarked, Morris’ fortified wines “really are some of Australia’s greatest gifts to the wine world” – a sentiment echoed in every award and every glass poured.

Morris Whisky is also made at the cellar door and is fast becoming renowned within Australia and the whisky world. Morris Whisky reflects its regional Victorian provenance. The whisky is made with 100% Australian ingredients, matured in ex-red wine barrels sourced from the Barossa and Coonawarra, which have been prepared by hand at the family cooperage and then finished in carefully selected barrels that have held Morris’ award-winning fortified wines.
